Duties and examples

Surface Movement

  • Schiphol Ground authorises start-up & push-back when it is safe to do so

  • Schiphol Ground issues taxi clearances

  • In a busy environment regulate the priority of the traffic. Make pilots give way to other pilots, instead of leaving it up to them. Also inform the pilot who is receiving priority, so he knows to which traffic to look out for.

  • Conditional clearances may be given, however care must be taken when doing so. There may be no ambiguity in the clearance, and the pilot must fully understand the clearance.

  • Crossing of active runways shall always be done under the responsibility of Schiphol Tower. Crossing of an inactive runway may be delegated to Schiphol Ground, but only after Schiphol Tower has agreed to this and the terms have been coordinated

Issuing Clearances

Taxi clearances should contain the following items:

  • Taxi to [Holding point]

  • [Runway]

  • [Routing]

  • [Traffic Info]

  • [Crossing instructions]

The routing is only mentioned for the non-standard part (so against standard taxi direction) or when taxiing via Q, Y or Z.
In case of crossing an inactive runway or intermediate holding point, this is instructed at the end of the taxi clearance as following: 'Cross ##'.
