Communicatie

Over het algemeen gezien zit er weinig verschil in de R/T ten opzicht van de civiele communicatie.
Zo zijn de taxi, take-off, approach en center communicaties gelijk aan elkaar. Elk militair vliegtuig dat enroute is, dan net zoals bij de civiele vliegtuigen afgehandeld worden. De verschillen zit hem echter wel in het woord gebruik, en dat bij procedures.

Taal

Binnen de luchtvaart wordt uitsluitend Engels gebruikt bij R/T tussen controller en piloot. De Nederlandse taal, mag alleen worden toegepast indien er grote onduidelijk heden zich voordoen.

Techniek

Om een goede en duidelijke R/T te geven moet men een aantal dingen in acht nemen voor dat men iets gaat verzenden over de frequentie.
  • Luister eerst of er geen andere R/T bezig is.
  • Weet wat je wilt zeggen, en tegen wie
  • Spreek duidelijk
  • Handhaaf een gelijkmatige spreek snelheid.
  • Houd het spreekvolume constant
  • Korte pauze voor en na het uitspreken van getallen, op deze manier worden getallen het beste verstaanbaar.
  • Vermijd aarzelende geluiden zoals "uh"
Bij evt. foute uitspraken moet het worden gecorrigeerd. Doe dit niet met een snelle afhandeling van "negative" maar zeg "correction", begin dan het 2e bericht met 'correction, I say again"
Omdat de kans bestaat dat een piloot moet switchen naar een andere frequentie, heeft de piloot hier tijd voor nodig. Geef daarom een piloot op tijd zijn handover naar de andere frequentie, en houd piloten niet tot op het randje van je grens.

Getallen

Bij het uitspreken van getallen dient men elk getal gescheiden te noemen. Dit is van toepassing op callsigns, flightlevels, headings, wind richting en snelheden, squawk codes.
Voorbeeld: Squawk seven zero zero zero en dus niet squawk seven thousand.

Uitzonderingen bij zijn de getallen die worden gebruikt bij altitude, bewolkingshoogte, zicht en runway visual range. Hier worden ze wel als zijnde compleet genoemd.

Term "cleared"

De term cleared word vaak gebruikt bij R/T. Alleen mogen ze niet altijd gebruikt worden in combinatie met een klaring. Het gebruik van de term "cleared" word gebruikt bij:
  • Cleared ILS approach
  • Cleared xxx departure
  • Cleared to cross CTR
  • Cleared to cross TMA
Cleared (to/for) te gebruiken bij:
  • Cleared for take-off (ipv to)
  • Cleared to land
  • Cleared for touch and go
Geen cleared gebruiken bij:
  • startup (startup approved)
  • Kruisen van een baan (crossing approved)
  • Taxi (taxi to RWYxx)
  • Verlaten van de baan (vacate RWY via exit)
Bij klimmen of dalen gebruik je nooit "cleared to climb / descent " maar climb/descen

Overhead pattern wil zeggen dat de vliegtuigen op initial (verlengde van de baan) komen aanvliegen, en dan te midden van baan een bocht maken om zo visueel te landen.
